From The Patients...

After speaking with many patients, several requested that I set up a place where they could tell their stories. I have set aside this area so that their stories, in their own words would be related to the world. The following are the patients' unedited comments. In addition, several of these patients have included their email address so that should you have questions/concerns/etc. and would like to get their perspectives and experiences, you can send these requests directly to them. They truly understand what it is like to be in a similar position to yourself and are eager to help in any way they can. I hope that you find this patient perspectives area useful.

Dr. Maller,
I have not worn my glasses in over 5 years nor worn regular contacts either since coming to you.

Several years ago, I read an article about AOK, Advanced Ortho Keratology, in a magazine article and then found you on the internet as someone who does this procedure locally.

My glasses prescription kept needing to get updated. I had to keep throwing my soft contact lenses out as they never lasted more than a few weeks as they kept getting infected (and my eyes) or tore. And the OrthoK hard lenses are far easier to put in and take out than soft contacts.

I thought wearing contact lenses at night seemed a bit crazy but thought I'd try it. And the first morning after wearing them at night I had microscopic vision. Far better than glasses or soft contacts. I can now go swimming, dance, do computer work, see very well close up and long distance. And the best part is that the process of AOK is reversible and non-traumatic to the eyes so there can never be permanent damage nor harm to the eyes. No more eye allergies. And when you told me that doctors opt for Orthokeratology and refuse to get Lasik, I knew that if doctors refused to get laser surgery on their eyes, then I should follow suit, as well.

Thank you,
Kira
