After speaking with many patients, several requested that I set up a place where they could tell their stories. I have set aside this area so that their stories, in their own words would be relayed to the world. The following are the patients' unedited comments. In addition, several of these patients have included their email address so that should you have questions/concerns/etc. and would like to get their perspectives and experiences, you can send these requests directly to them. They truly understand what it is like to be in a similar position as yourself and are eager to help in any way they can. I hope that you find this patient perspectives area useful.

July 13, 2007 started out as a regular work day. I was extra busy because I was taking the afternoon off to travel from Fort Lauderdale to Miami Beach to see my eye doctor. This particular doctor has been attempting to make me contact lenses since Christmas 2006 without much success. Then the phone rang and it was the doctor himself telling me not to bother coming in because there was nothing further he could do for me.
I was pretty shocked by this turn of events so I didn't say much except "okay." The doctor continued by telling me that my case was pretty much hopeless and he really didn't think that any doctor would be able to help me and I should just get used to "it." The "it" in this case is severe nearsightedness coupled with severe astigmatism. And as an added bonus, at the age of 43, my near vision was beginning to deteriorate so now I couldn't see near or far! I was angry, depressed and worried if perhaps my fate was to never see clearly again.
I was having trouble driving, couldn't read a newspaper, was straining at the computer and my eyes were terribly painful and dripping mucous. The more I rubbed them, the more swollen they got. Sometimes, my lenses were actually stuck within the swelling. After about two months of simply not knowing what to do, I decided there had to be someone out there who could fit me with contact lenses. I decided to search the Internet and see if I could get some advice. I scoured the chat rooms, read the discussion boards and searched Google with every key word I could think of. I called several doctors who sounded promising but very few called back or emailed me. I wanted to determine if the prospective doctor had ANY experience with my type of prescription before I went for a visit. I had spent so much money and time up to this point, that I was hesitant to try again unless I found someone with experience.
In a bout of frustration one afternoon, I started searching Google again and www.noblur.com came up. It seemed like this was a possibility so I emailed my usual commentary stating that I have a very unusual prescription and I have been to many doctors who are not experienced in my type of vision, etc. etc. Within 6 hours, Dr. Maller emailed back and said he was 99.9% confident he could help me. Being a skeptic by this point, I doubted his confidence and further explained the depth of my problems but Dr. Maller remained confident. So I made an appointment.
I am very happy to say that Dr. Maller was indeed able to solve my problems. My new multi-focal RGP lenses are fantastic! Dr. Maller obviously knows his craft and is very skilled at his job. His computerized methods are much different than I saw at any other office. Dr. Maller never rushed me, answered all my questions and was generally a very personable, efficient doctor. If you have special fit problems with your lenses, I highly recommend Dr. Maller. I would go so far as to say Dr. Maller is my hero! My vision is the best it has been in years due to Dr. Maller's talent, compassion, and knowledge.
