After speaking with many patients, several requested that I set up a place where they could tell their stories. Ortho-K therapy has forever changed my life! I suffer from Sjögren’s Syndrome, a chronic autoimmune disease in which people’s white blood cells attack their moisture-producing glands. For years I have suffered from dry eyes due to this disease. I had worn contact lenses for many years, until they became painfully uncomfortable due to my acute dry eyes. I had been rejected for Laser surgery because of my condition. I became resigned to wearing eyeglasses forever.
One day I saw a report on TV about a vision correcting therapy called Ortho-K. I was skeptical at first, thinking if this therapy was so good, then why had I not heard of it before. But, I made a mental note. After years of wearing glasses, I finally got frustrated enough to begin researching Ortho-K therapy. I Googled doctors in my area that provided this service and I came to Dr.Maller’s website. I made an appointment and was greeted by a friendly staff and was attended to immediately.
Right from the start Dr. Maller explained every step of the way what he was able to do and all the steps he would take to help me. I proved to be a special challenge due to my dry eyes. However, I signed up, fully confident, after all my questions were answered, that this treatment would be a success!
By the second visit, I underwent the in-office therapy wearing my custom fitted contact lenses. After several hours of contact lens wear, the doctor removed the lenses and I was amazed at how clear my vision was after just a few hours of therapy! He trained me on the proper care and use of the lenses and we made an appointment for a follow-up a few weeks later.
With a few minor adjustments, my vision was 20/20-20/40 most of the day! I was ecstatic! Finally, NO MORE GLASSES! I was also excited to report that my dryness had improved somewhat after a few weeks.
It has been 9 months since I began the therapy. I have had fewer eye infections, no emergency visits to the ophthalmologist’s and my vision has stabilized to the point where I can see perfectly all day long!
