After speaking with many patients, several requested that I set up a place where they could tell their stories. I have set aside this area so that their stories, in their own words would be relayed to the world. The following are the patients' unedited comments. In addition, several of these patients have included their email address so that should you have questions/concerns/etc. and would like to get their perspectives and experiences, you can send these requests directly to them. They truly understand what it is like to be in a similar position as yourself and are eager to help in any way they can. I hope that you find this patient perspectives area useful.

Orthokeratology

(The following letter was written by Mr. Locksley in response to an article he saw in Consumer Reports regarding Refractive Laser Surgery.)

Sir/Madam,

Re: Laser Surgery: Go in with you eyes open: I suspect I am not alone among your readership in not being willing to accept the many risks of this procedure. The obvious fact is, you only have one pair of eyes and the changes made to the cornea are irreversible. And given the ambiguity of your survey results, I was a bit surprised that you didn’t dig deeper for an alternative to laser.

Fortunately, my father-in-law is an ophthalmologist, and through him I discovered a surprisingly little-known, but amazingly effective, non-surgical alternative to laser. It's called Orthokeratology, and am happy to report a fantastic result using this procedure. It’s perfectly safe, reversible, and has restored my vision to 20/20. Orthokeratology involves gently shaping your cornea to your prescription with a pair of custom contact lens, which you wear, without discomfort, while you sleep. When you wake up, remove, clean, and store the lenses, and you have perfect vision all day.

Ironically, OrthoK (as it’s known), is often used to treat patients disfigured by laser surgery. You can learn more at www.noblur.com.
